Just a little over a week is left before the ball rolls at the Paris Olympics. With the mega event knocking at the door, everyone is currently busy picking their best representatives to be the flag bearer for their nation. What about Germany? Well, The German Olympic Sports Confederation has nominated 6 candidates (3 men + 3 women) from Team Germany for the election as flag-bearer duo. Tennis star, Alexander Zverev is one among those six on the list. Zverev’s girlfriend celebrates his nomination with a passionate call to action!

A day earlier, Zverev also put up a post on his Instagram account. Sharing a clip of himself from the Tokyo Olympics, the German tennis player wrote, “It is a great honor for me to be nominated as the potential German flag bearer. The Olympic Games are the most important sporting event in the world. Leading our nation into the games together with an outstanding female athlete would be the greatest honor of my life. Please vote for us and let’s experience two unforgettable weeks together.

The flag bearers will be announced on July 25 and till then everyone can vote for their favorite star. Zverev’s girlfriend Sophia Thomalla, taking advantage of the opportunity, shared Zverev’s post on her IG Story with an emotional 2-emoji reaction. along with that she dropped a voting link, encouraging her audience to vote for him.

In the men’s category along with Zverev, there are Dennis Schroder (captain of the basketball team) and Christian Weitz (won a gold medal in shooting in 2016). On the women’s list, three of them are- Alexandra Popp (2016 gold medalist in football), Jessica von Bredow-Wernld, and Anna-Maria Wagner.

Zverev has had a decent season this year and now he has set defending his Olympic gold medal as a top priority. Alex previously held Paris Olympics in special regards and stated how Thomalla can help him achieve his dream of recreating the historic moment.

Zverev says winning gold at the Olympics is the “greatest thing” in sport

Last time in Tokyo, Alex defeated Karen Khachanov (ROC) in the final by 6-3,6-1. He became the first German man to win a gold medal in singles and the first to win a medal since the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Now, he wants to take a similar round in Paris as well! “Winning gold at the Olympics is the greatest thing you can achieve in sport,” said Zverev. What lies ahead of him in 2024? Well, the 27-year-old German tennis star is pretty much excited and he’s also looking forward to being in the Olympic Village again.

To help him make his journey much smoother, Alexander needs someone to stay beside him, and that’s none other than Thomalla. She has been his constant support over the last few years. Reflecting on the same, Zverev once revealed, “I play extremely well with her behind me.” He added, “I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you. Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security.
