Novak Djokovic has seen it all this year. After a glorious 2021 season, that saw him win three Grand Slam titles, the Serb didn’t have an ideal beginning to this season. Earlier this year, he was embroiled in a visa controversy in Australia owing to his vaccination status. Subsequently, he endured a lengthy legal battle that ended just a day before the commencement of the Australian Open. The former World Number 1 failed to defend his Australian Open crown after he was deported from Australia.

However, Djokovic has regained his winning touch with an impressive performance at the Wimbledon Championships. He won his 21st Grand Slam title, defeating Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the summit clash of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. Recently, there was a massive development regarding Djokovic’s US Open participation.

New twist in Djokovic’s US Open saga

Last week, the United States President, Joe Biden, received a letter from Nebojsa Jovanovic, asking for Djokovic to be allowed to participate in the tournament in New York. Jovanovic is the owner of a company that promotes professional tennis. The letter read, “The US Open is the biggest tennis tournament in the world, and it will not be what it is without Novak Djokovic. Considering the economic situation and the crisis at all levels, America must not allow the US Open not to be held in its full glory and capacity, which also means the participation of Novak Djokovic, who has been crowned three times at the US Open.”
