Whether betting should be allowed or not is a big question that has different interpretations in the sporting world. Recently, the issue became a talking point in the realm of tennis as well. Two former tennis players were fined and suspended by the ITIA for promoting gambling in another sport. Subsequently, this caught the attention of the current Indian Wells champion, Taylor Fritz. He is among the first tennis players to address the controversy surrounding the actions of the ITIA.

Bob Bryan and Mardy Fish have lately been in the news for reasons other than tennis. The US Davis Cup team coaches, who promoted gambling on their social media accounts, were each fined $10,000 and given a four-month suspension. Taylor Fritz, however, has a different perspective on the issue.
Taylor Fritz addresses the gambling issue
Tennis players are prohibited from promoting any form of gambling, under the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) rules. The 25-year-old expressed his opinion about the situation on social media. Fritz quoted the tweet with the ITIA statement and criticized the decision to suspend the former tennis players, but allow numerous tennis channels that engage in the same type of activities.
Huh?!?! So tennis channel (and many others) can run special segments for draft kings, but as a coach you aren’t allowed to legally sports bet on another sport that has nothing to do with tennis ???? https://t.co/Ihklm5UALC

The 27-year-old Aussie star, Nick Kyrgios, joined the American tennis player and commented on his post. He added a laughing emoji, feeling no need to elaborate on the circumstances or Fritz’s point of view.

Other tennis players punished by the ITIA over similar concerns
The international authority has already imposed severe measures regarding the players’ involvement in betting and gambling, in and around sports. After learning about Ksenia Palkina’s betting-related activities, the organization, earlier this year, banned the tennis player from Kyrgyzstan for 16 years. Additionally, the US tennis player, Adam El Mihdawy, was also suspended due to charges of match-fixing and has been prohibited from attending matches since April. He was recently banned for three and a half years after he admitted to the match-fixing charges.
The governing body has been receiving a lot of attention since Simona Halep‘s suspension over a month ago. During the US Open, the tennis player tested positive for a prohibited substance.
