The American tennis star, Taylor Fritz, had a fantastic season in 2022. The former World No 8 has put on some impressive displays to outclass some of the best players on the ATP tour, including the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, at Indian Wells. Notably, Fritz clinched the Japan Open title during this season. However, despite his substantial progress on the Tour, Fritz is not a part of the nominees for the ATP award for the most improved player.

As a result, Fritz was hugely disappointed by the decision of the governing body of men’s pro tennis. The Japan Open champion used social media to express his opinion on the list of nominees.

Taylor Fritz is hugely disappointed at his snub

The Association of Tennis Professionals has recently released the list of nominees for different categories of ATP awards. It also includes a category of the award for the most improved player during this season. The US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, the Paris Masters winner Holger Rune, along with other top players on the ATP tour, have been nominated for the award.

Others, like Maxime Cressy and Jack Draper, are also in contention to win the award. However, Taylor Fritz, who has had a great season, is not there on the list. As a result, the former World No 8 took to Twitter and stated, “Feel like I could’ve been nominated for most improved…. not saying I should win it or anything crazy like that but maybe just a nom”

Does Fritz deserve to be on the nominees’ list?

The former World No 8 tennis player started the season as the 23rd-ranked player on the ATP tour. However, Fritz, with some dominating performances, broke into the top 10 men’s rankings. Additionally, the American tennis star finished the season while sitting at the 9th spot on the ATP rankings.

Some of his best performances came at the Japan Open and also at the Indian Wells Masters, where he was crowned as the champion. During a brilliant season, Fritz outclassed some of the best players on the tour in order to clinch three singles ATP titles. Apart from this, Fritz’s win-loss record stands at 46-21 during the season.
