Having watched your idol play your whole life and then getting a chance to play alongside him, who wouldn’t want that? At least Carlos Alcaraz is certainly hopeful of joining forces with childhood idol Rafael Nadal. A rising ATP star from Spain, the 20-year-old star has always idolized the 22-time grand slam winner and has always wanted to team up alongside him for a doubles match.

With Rafa announcing that this year could be his last as a professional athlete on a tennis circuit, speculations surrounding the deadly duo of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal himself at the Paris Olympics gained fire. However, considering the recent struggles that the Spanish bull has been dealing with, Alcaraz found it difficult to go to his childhood idol and ask him to team up.

We have not talked about it. I have met him these days, in the last tournaments. And the truth is that I have not dared to tell him, said Alcaraz in the interview.

However, Nadal came ahead and proved to be the bigger man in the debate. He suggested that Alcaraz does not need to ask anything to him. Nadal then went ahead to add that if everything turned out well, fans could see both stars in action on the clay courts in Paris. Not only this, but he also added that their teaming up would not only be good for the fans but for the Spanish federation as well.

“No, he doesn’t have to ask me anything. I think all things being well we will play. It’s also hugely exciting for me if I am not mistaken. I have heard it is from him too. So it would be amazing to play the odd tournament before the Olympics to prepare ourselves to get some rapport on the court. I think if we are both fit enough then why not. We could have the chance to form a great team and aspire to great things. It would be good for both of us I think it would also be good for the Spanish team. So we will see how things progress,” said Nadal in the interview.

Thus, Rafael Nadal, who is eyeing golden glory in Paris will be looking to team up with Carlos Alcaraz if everything goes smoothly. Nadal, who already announced that this will be his last year on the court as a professional athlete has also made it clear that he will give in his everything to make sure that he is in shape right before the Olympics.

In another interview, Rafael Nadal came ahead and suggested that while his participation will only depend on his performance in the upcoming events, it will not mean the end for him If he does not feel 100% fit he will not take part in the French Open. However, he added that he still has goals after the Open like the Olympics that he can look to play.

“If I arrive in Paris the way I feel today, I will not play. I will play Roland Garros if I feel competitive. If I can play, I play. If I can’t play, I can’t. It won’t be the end of the world or the end of my career. I still got goals after Roland Garros, like the Olympics,” said Nadal.
