Andre Agassi trash-talks John McEnroe’s pickleball skills

Pickleball has been gaining popularity in recent years, and it’s not just among recreational players, but also among former professional tennis players. The game is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and is played on a court that is much smaller than a traditional tennis court.

People at the helm of this upcoming paddle sport have recently taken some steps to enhance the appeal of the sport. Starting a professional league, the Pickleball Slam, is certainly aimed at that goal. The fact that Agassi and McEnroe, two tennis legends, are competing in a pickleball match speaks volumes about the growing popularity of the sport. However, the buildup to the event has been far from amicable. In a recent promo video, Andre Agassi took jabs at John McEnroe’s ability to play the game.

The official Pickleball Slam account shared the video of Agassi with the caption, “Sounds like @AndreAgassi ‘s coming for ya @JohnMcEnroe. #ThePickleballSlam How can you not show up to the @HardRockHolly to see this?

In the video, Agassi said, “I am saying this is a healthy time before the event. So that you know I have some perspective about it. John McEnroe might be the only tennis player whose game doesn’t translate to pickleball at all. You are talking about a guy who beat people by taking their time away, by stringing his racquet very loose. He played very awkwardly, and he never generated pace. So if you can’t play pickleball, and it’s one-dimensional, he gets frustrated. I just really hope that the pickleball event is up to handling him. It’s going to be the best show of all.”
