Having had an ideal warm-up for the Australian Open, the former World No. 1 continued his good form as he defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in the opening round of the Grand Slam Down Under. However, Murray could not sustain the momentum as he lost to the Japanese Taro Daniel in the second round, eventually bowing out of the Australian Open 2022. Despite this disappointment, the Scot has something to cheer about as he is about to record his highest ranking since 2018.
