Team USA suffered a defeat at the hands of team Colombia in the ongoing Davis Cup Finals as both the countries failed to qualify for the quarters. Despite a tough campaign at the team event, team USA can lift their heads high as one of their players put up a spirited performance to knock out Colombia’s Nicolas Mejia.
It has been an interesting couple of months for Frances Tiafoe as he managed to stun the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner to reach the finals at ATP Vienna and backed it up with a semi-final run at the Stockholm Open.

Frances Tiafoe explains how he got to be a part of team USA at Davis Cup Finals 2021
As the Swedish event came to an end, Tiafoe packed his bags and wandered off to enjoy the off-season. The American was on a vacation with his girlfriend when he got a call to replace Taylor Fritz at the Davis Cup Finals for team USA.
“I was on vacation before this. I wasn’t supposed to play. I came out here, I’m going to give it my all. Yeah, it was emotional, but in the end I’m happy I got a win for everybody and I put myself on the line for the country,” revealed Tiafoe.
Currently ranked no.38 in the singles circuit, the American saved two match points to register a maiden victory at the Davis Cup over Nicolas Meija.

“Flight got cancelled in Houston, got stuck in Houston. So I had a lot of adversity things going in. So I was like, ‘If I’m playing, I’m gonna f****** play hard’. It was nice. I’m happy my girlfriend came here with me. I’m happy I ended up getting a win.”
Judy Murray and John Isner praised Tiafoe for an impressive performance at Davis Cup Finals
It was an impressive performance from Tiafoe to give a lead of 1-o to Team USA against Colombia. The American scripted a nice memory for himself by registering his first-ever Davis Cup victory as teammate John Isner praised him on a top-notch effort.

In the current scenario where few players are comfortable in just putting up a show for fans and not bothering much about the in-built talent they were gifted with, it’s refreshing to see Frances Tiafoe going all the way to Italy at the last moment and winning a game for his country.
