A few days ago, the 24-time Grand Slam champion announced a split with his long-time coach, Goran Ivanisevic, coming as a complete shock to the tennis world. Despite poor results this year, they have had a successful partnership, winning many big tournaments. Recently, American tennis legend, Andy Roddick, made a surprising remark on this situation.

Despite his retirement from tennis, Roddick has stayed close to the sport. He can often be heard giving his opinions about various trending topics in the tennis world through his podcast. But was he correct about his opinion this time around?

Hours ago, a new episode of the podcast ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ dropped. During the episode, the American legend went on to comment about Djokovic’s split with Goran Ivanisevic. Apparently, journalist Jon Wertheim had hinted about this before Djokovic officially announced it. Talking about this, Roddick said, “He probably wants someone to bounce ideas off and with time goes, listen I’ve interviewed this guy for 60 minutes.”

Further, he went on to add a journalist’s opinions, “I’ve interviewed him for the cover of Sports Illustrated. I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with him, he might go it alone, he might have no coach. And sure sh*t, two or three days later Novak’s going, he kind of flirted with the idea and he hasn’t made any total decisions but he said, you know, I can go it alone. So the journalist knows more than the player apparently.”

Apart from being in a player-coach relationship, Ivanisevic and Novak Djokovic were also good friends. However, when things weren’t going well on the court for the Serb, their working relationship suffered from turbulence. Eventually, Djokovic announced the split with his long-time coach.

The World Number 1 took to social media to announce that he has parted ways with Ivanisevic. Despite ending their professional relationship, Djokovic hoped to stay in touch with him on the personal front.

He said, “Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on-court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid.”
