The previous decade of the tennis world revolved around players who not only created a mark in the sport but also were world-renowned for different reasons. Among the ones who managed to stay on top of the line, Andy Roddick defeated several formidable opponents on his journey. However, there’s one name that he still thinks is hard enough to surpass.

In a recent episode of the Tennis Channel Live Podcast, former tennis champ Andy Roddick opened up about the unique difficulties of facing top-tier opponents. Explaining how it stopped him from achieving notable feats, he referred to his on-court rivalry against the legend Roger Federer, indirectly mentioning his name through the fact that he sought mentorship from Paul Annecone.

Sharing an analysis of his career, Roddick remarked, “My stock game was good against 95% of the tour. And then I played a bunch of the guys that Paul (Annacone) coached in the past, and it just didn’t quite work that well.”

Federer’s connection with Paul Annecone not only made him stand strong against Roddick but also raised his levels as he secured a total of 15 titles and a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics. The fact that the Swiss tennis maestro shared an evident period of his career with Paul Annecone made the statement’s target evident.

Roddick’s comments also reminded him of his rivalry with Federer, where he faced defeat in 21 out of 24 matches they played in their careers. The fact that he talked about Federer’s dominance against him finds a connection to the crucial showdowns in which the Swiss tennis maestro defeated him.
