Nick Kyrgios is enjoying one of the best seasons of his tennis career. A talented professional, his on-court antics have often overshadowed his performances. Recently, American tennis legend, Andy Roddick, opened up about Kyrgios’ chances at this year’s US Open.

In the current season, he has overcome all odds to succeed despite suffering from his usual disciplinary issues on the court. In his ‘home’ Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, he lifted the men’s doubles title with his partner Thanasi Kokkinakis. Further, at the Wimbledon Championships, he reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time before losing against Novak Djokovic in the summit clash.

During an interview, the former World Number 1 talked about Kyrgios’ chances in the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. He said, “Admittedly he says he doesn’t work very hard on his fitness, but playing your way into shape is a real thing.”

Further, he added, “As far as being physically fit, after a heavy workload this summer, he may be as prepared as we’ve ever seen him.”

Talking about Kyrgios carrying the confidence from his Wimbledon exploits earlier this year, Roddick said, “He navigated his way for the first time through a whole grand slam. A lot of upside for Nick Kyrgios. He’s got to be as confident as he’s ever been.”

The Australian star is the 23rd seed at this year’s US Open and will take on his compatriot, Thanasi Kokkinakis in the opening round of the tournament. Both of them will know a thing or two about each other’s game, having teamed up to win the Australian Open men’s doubles title earlier this year.
