Andrey Rublev Pays a Hefty $8000 Fine for Unacceptable Behavior at French Open 2022

French Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments with some of the top players vying for the title. Due to the intense competition, players occasionally tend to lose their cool, and that’s exactly what happened to Andrey Rublev in the second round.
In this year’s French Open, there were a few incidents that the players should have avoided. One was from the Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev, and the second instance was from the Romanian star, Irina-Camelia Begu.

French Open levy hefty fines on Andrey Rublev and Irina-Camelia Begu for their unacceptable behavior
Both Andrey Rublev and Irina-Camelia Begu received heavy fines for their behavior during their respective matches. The Russian star hit a ball in anger when he lost the first set against Federico Delbonis of Argentina in the second round. The ball went perilously close to seriously injuring a groundsman. In a similar incident, the following day, Begu was in a critical stage of her third set. When out of frustration, she threw her racket on the ground which bounced and almost hit a child seated in the crowd.

Fines leader, as expected, is Irina-Camelia Begu, who was fined $10,000 for throwing her racquet and hitting a child in the stands.
Second place is Andrey Rublev, who was fined $8,000 for nearly hitting a groundskeeper with a ball launched in anger.

The organizers took notice of the incidents and slapped both the players with hefty fines. While they fined Rublev $8000, the Romanian got a fine of $10000.

Andrey Rublev Appeals for Working Together Amidst Wimbledon Row for Tennis’ Welfare
Both players accepted their punishment and apologized for their behavior.
Rublev and Begu Apologize for the Incident
Speaking about the incident at the post-match press conference, Rublev apologized for his behavior and regretted his actions.
He said, “I lost my mind for a moment, and of course, I’m regretful for what I did. It is unacceptable to hit the ball the way I [did].”

Similarly, Begu also regretted her actions and apologized for her behavior.
She said, “It’s an embarrassing moment for me, so I don’t want to talk too much about it. I just want to apologise. My whole career I didn’t do something like this, and I feel really bad and sorry. So I’m just going to say again, sorry for the incident and, yeah, it was just an embarrassing moment for me.”
However, both players won their respective matches and successfully advanced to the third round of the French Open.

Even though both got hefty fines, what’s important is that the players hopefully learn from their mistakes.
