Fans might not see Roger Federer play on-court after his retirement. But we might see his kids follow in his footsteps to glory and maintain his legacy one day. In a heartwarming update, the Swiss Maestro revealed how he is delighted to notice a budding interest in tennis among his kids. Especially in his two boys!
Roger and Mirka Federer are the proud parents of twin daughters, Myla and Charlene (14 years), and also twin sons, Lenny and Leo (9 years). When they were quite young, Federer admitted that he would support his children in whatever career they pursued in the future. But quite naturally, he confessed how he would love to watch them play tennis. And now it seems he does not have to worry about it anymore. As he himself revealed, “All four kids love it.”
However, there is a twist to the story. Myla and Charlene, who have previously attended many of their father’s tournaments to support him, were initially more interested in playing with a doll than with a tennis racquet. Federer revealed how he even tried to go along with his kids on the court and play with them. But instead of imitating their father, they would get discouraged after playing for only 30 seconds. But now the scenario has changed, “As they got better, they’re enjoying it and playing points now,” Federer said.

And to spark their intrigue even more, he has also sent them to practice tennis in prestigious academies. “They were up at [John] McEnroe Academy in East Hampton.” However, unlike his girls, Federer admitted that his boys were naturally drawn to the game from the beginning. And to train them, he said that “the boys were in Mallorca at the [Rafael Nadal] camp for a couple of days.”

Federer also revealed how, for him, winning in front of his kids meant so much more than just earning a title. He recalled how winning his eighth Wimbledon championship in front of his kids made him emotional after the match.
Roger Federer reminisces about how Wimbledon victory of 2017 “started to sink in”
The Swiss legend, who clinched his eighth Wimbledon title almost 14 years after his first one, referred to the experience as “magical.” “I looked up in the stands and saw my kids. Then it started to sink in that I was a Wimbledon champion for real,” he said. “I saw the boys for the first time. And [seeing] them coming out to center court. And knowing how much center court means to me, and seeing them like not knowing what’s going on.”

Federer, who always went to his tournaments along with his kids, slowly evolved from being a dominator to a challenger. And according to him, that kept his “hunger” alive throughout the next chapter of his life.
