Earlier this month, he made his retirement announcement, stating that he will play one last match at the Laver Cup. The Swiss maestro enthralled fans on Friday night, playing doubles with Rafael Nadal.

As the 20-time Grand Slam champion made an emotional exit, social media was filled with congratulatory messages for him. Further, people lauded him for a wonderful career. Additionally, renowned celebrities across the globe also sent in their messages. Amongst them was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife, Maria Shriver.

As Federer bid adieu to the tennis world, the former First Lady of California took to Twitter to congratulate the Swiss legend for his illustrious career. She said, “A legend and a class act.”

Nadal has emotional words for Federer following his retirement

During an interview after their doubles encounter, the Spaniard had some kind words for Federer, with whom he had one of the most intriguing rivalries. Nadal said, “When Roger leaves the tour, an important part of my life is leaving too because of all the moments that he has been next or in front me in important moments of my life.”
