Roger Federer’s Grand Slam titles have earned him the stature of one of the tennis ‘GOATs.’ When asked about how he feels about being called the greatest player of all time, the Swiss maestro once issued an honest answer that has not sat well with a flurry of fans on social media.

The former tennis player has amassed a remarkable 20 major titles while also reaching the number-one ranking during his illustrious journey. But now that the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, has surpassed him in the major title tally, fans recently came forward to mock Federer for his ‘boastful comments’ about his ‘GOAT’ stature.

Back in 2009, Roger Federer was asked how he felt about being called the greatest player of all time after winning his 14th Grand Slam title. In his honest response, Roger Federer said, “I mean, obviously, it feels nice, I mean, I have always been very to be called one of the greatest of all time, you know, just because I have so many Grand Slams and so many dominant seasons. You know, it’s hard to do to stay healthy, to keep the drive and everything; it’s just great to be up there… I might be the greatest of all time, we don’t know.”

He added, “But I have many things going for me because I have finally won all four Grand Slams and I’m happy to reaching to Pete’s 14 and I’m sure he’s watching so ‘Hi, Pete!'”

Taking note of his past comments about his ‘GOAT’ status, a Djokovic fan recently tweeted, “He genuinely thought he was going to be the GOAT didn’t he? Bless him, I do feel for him a little and can understand his actions and behaviours against Djokovic now.”

In the comment section, other fans were quick to react as they called Federer out for his ‘boastful comments’ while comparing him to his former Serbian colleague.

Similarly, another fan shared how Federer underestimated Djokovic. The Serb has way more Grand Slam titles than anyone and more Masters than anyone.
