Stefanos Tsitsipas idolizes a younger player

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a player who has garnered quite a name for himself. Consistently playing in the top 10 for almost four years, the Greek player has amassed a good fan following. He recently played in the Davis Cup, where Greece was defeated by Slovakia. After his loss, he talked about the defeat in an interview. According to him, he carried the responsibility of being an older player. He then talked about living up to his idol.

I didn’t play like one of my idols does, when I see him play I get very inspired and motivated to do the same. I’m talking about Carlos Alcaraz, who has incredible pace in his games. He plays with so much determination, without fear and today I felt like I chased it as I should. It’s often difficult when I play with my brother, it becomes more emotional than any other partner I’ve ever had.

Being from Spain and great on clay, many have dubbed Carlos Alcaraz the successor of Rafael Nadal. Despite having a good record on clay himself, Tsitsipas did not think of himself as one of the next big players on the surface. He lauded Alcaraz as the bigger favorite and even went on to call him the next Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz’s impressive performance has taken the attention of many players on tour. Not only do younger players idolize him for winning two slams at such a young age, but players older than him are also looking up to him.
