Alexander Bublik Vs Andy Murray: Match Preview

Andy Murray began his 2022 season on a weak note with a first-round exit at the Melbourne Summer Set. However, he bounced right back to reach the final of the Sydney International tournament.

Sadly, Murray could not complete the fairy tale, falling to Russian World No. 15 Aslan Karatsev in straight sets. Furthermore, Murray’s Australian Open run was nothing to write home about. The former World No. 1 lost to Japan’s Daniel Taro in the second round of the Grand Slam.

Following his Australian Open exit, Murray made a last-minute decision to compete in Rotterdam and will face Bublik in the first round.

On the other hand, his competitor Alexander Bublik will enter the tournament on a high note. Bublik won against the German World No. 3 Alexander Zverev at the Montpellier Open final on February 6.

This was his maiden ATP title, and the Kazakhstani player will be eager to go forth with newfound momentum. Moreover, his confidence would be reinforced, following victories over Filip Krajinovic and Roberto Bautista Agut in the Open Sud de France.

‘Won’t Do Nothing’: Andy Murray Decides to Skip The Clay Season and The French Open

In the Australian Open 2022, Bublik’s campaign was quite similar to Andy Murray’s. The World No. 35 exited the tournament following a second-round defeat against Frenchman Gael Monfils.

Murray Vs Bublik: Head to Head

Andy Murray and Alexander Bublik have only faced each other once before in the past. In fact, their last meeting was half a decade ago, at the 2017 Wimbledon Championship.

In the very first round at Wimbledon, Murray defeated a then-20-year-old Bublik in straight sets, easily cruising past him. Murray won the match 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Subsequently, he went on to reach the quarter-final of his home slam, before losing to Sam Querrey in five sets. However, Murray and Bublik have never met on a hard court.

Nevertheless, as it stands, Andy Murray holds the winning record against Bublik, but that just might change following tomorrow’s tussle.

Prediction: Bublik in three sets

Even though many would love to see a resurgent Andy Murray win tomorrow, it is more than likely that Alexander Bublik prevails. The 24-year-old is fresh off from a tournament victory.

Moreover, Andy’s health has not been the best of late, owing to which he will also forego the clay season entirely this year.

Thus, it is all too easy to see Bublik winning their contest tomorrow, even if the British former World No. 1 puts up a fight.
