The Acapulco Open is an ATP 500 event that attracts many players from around the world. Youngsters and seasoned players use it to move ahead in the rankings and attain a better form. Ben Shelton entered the tournament with similar hopes and will now play against Matteo Arnaldi in the second round. Who has a better chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals?

Shelton began 2024 with a first-round exit in the Brisbane International. He showed better form in the ASB Classic as he won his first two matches. He attained a similar feat in the Australian Open. He followed the Aussie slam with the Dallas Open, where he would once again win the first two rounds before losing in the third round. Coming into Mexico, Shelton won his first-round clash against Dan Evans in a three-set clash.

Similar to Shelton, Arnaldi began his 2024 stint in the Brisbane International but had better luck. He won his first two clashes before being ousted by Roman Safiullin. In the Adelaide International, Arnaldi won his opening round match before being eliminated in the second round. He found a similar fate in the Australian Open with a second-round exit.

Arnaldi would once again exit a tournament in the second round of the Delray Beach Open after another three-set clash. However, he would lose in the opening round of the Los Cabos Open. Now, he will face a big challenge in his match against Shelton.

Shelton vs Arnaldi: Head-to-Head

Shelton and Arnaldi have not played against each other on tour before, and this will be their first clash against each other. Both players will have to rely on their tapes from the past to come up with strategies to overcome the other. The audience will be treated to a fresh bout as they will see both of them fighting hard to overcome the other.

Prediction: Shelton to take the cake

Both players have been struggling to go far in tournaments in the last two months. However, Shelton’s prowess has shown that he is a better player than Arnaldi at the moment.
