Arthur Fils vs Dušan Lajović: Preview

Fils turned professional in 2022 but found his rhythm in 2023. He entered 2023 ranked 251, but winning his first challenger event helped him move up 60 spots by mid-January. He recorded his first win on the ATP Tour following the Challenger, managing to qualify for the Italian Open. Not only that but the Frenchman also won his first Master’s main draw event, which was followed by winning his first ATP 250 event in Lyon. 2023’s victories ended with his US Open debut appearance.

Coming into 2024, Fils started the year in Hong Kong, where he won his first two matches. He followed it with an appearance in the ASB Classics, where he collected three wins. The Australian Open debut went well for Fils, and now he plays Lajović.

Lajović had a different 2023 run than Fils. He played in the main draw of all slams, but couldn’t manage to go farther than round 1 in any. He won an ATP 250, which was the Banja Luka Open in May. In the Masters, his performance was not much better than his performance in slams. The Serbian could not manage to go beyond round 3 in any tournament.

Fils vs Lajović: Head-to-Head

Fils and Lajović have played against each other once. They battled against each other in the Hamburg European Open. They fought each other point for point on clay, and Fils won the first set with the score reading 7-5. A similar sight would await the audience in the second set as it ended 7-5, once again in Fils’ favor. The French player won their first bout.

Prediction: Fils to take the win and move on

While Fils is struggling to find solid ground, he is faring much better than Lajović. The French young gun has managed to show some impressive performances in the last year and is growing steadily. Lajović has also shown good plays in the past few months, but nothing that can match up to Fils. He has a higher chance of winning and moving ahead in the tournament.
