Last year’s finalist Marcos Giron is all set to take on the in-form Norwegian Casper Ruud in the first round (R32) of the 2025 Dallas Open. Ruud looked quite impressive at the Davis Cup last week, and now perhaps he’ll be keen to make a good start in Dallas. However, the job won’t be easy for the world number 5! Giron’s performance on the hard courts, especially in front of the home crowd, has always been praiseworthy in the past. So, we can surely expect some fireworks in this mega duel! Who has the edge in this battle though?
Casper Ruud vs Marcos Giron: Preview
After making it to the finals at the Los Cabos Open, Mexican Open, and Monte Carlo Masters, Casper Ruud finally won his first title of the 2024 season in Barcelona. He defeated Greek star Stefanos Tsitisipas by 7-5,6-3 in the final, and it was followed by yet another title triumph at the Geneva Open. Apart from that, Casper Ruud also reached the SF of the French Open and the ATP World Tour Finals in the 2024 season. Ruud was defeated in the second round of the 2025 AO by Jakub Mensik (CZE). It’ll be interesting to see how far he goes in this tournament in Dallas.

Marcos Giron also had a decent season last year. He reached the final of the 2024 Dallas Open, but over there, he was defeated by his compatriot Tommy Paul in three sets. After that, he made a few long runs at the Delray Beach Open, Houston, and the Halle Open before clinching the title at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. Marcos Giron also started the 2025 season strongly by reaching the QF of the 2025 Adelaide International. However, his fortunes didn’t favor him in Melbourne, as he had to face the eventual champion, Jannik Sinner in the third round. Sinner defeated Giron in straight sets at the Australian Open. Can the American bounce back on winning tracks?

Casper Ruud has met Marcos Giron only three times in his career. Currently, the Norwegian has a lead of 2-1 over the American tennis star. It’ll be interesting to see if the home crowd can help Giron pull things on level terms with Ruud with a win in this epic encounter.
