Tiafoe reached the quarterfinal of the US Open, falling slightly short of his feat in the tournament in 2022. However, after the US Open, Tiafoe’s performance started diminishing, and he ended the year at rank 16 due to constant losses. In 2024, Tiafoe only played in the Australian Open and lost in round 2.

Alex Michelsen turned pro last year and played in the US Open for the first time, where he achieved his debut Grand Slam appearance. Michelsen managed to reach the finals of seven ATP Challenger tournaments and snagged the M15 Edmond, Chicago, and Knoxville Challengers. Coming into 2024, Michelsen won his two qualifying matches in the Brisbane International and the ASB Classic but lost in the main draw.

Prediction: Tiafoe wins after a difficult bout

Both players have had a similar run in the past few months. While Michelsen has won more matches in the last few weeks, Tiafoe has a much higher chance of winning their clash. His experience on the senior tour has helped him develop the necessary abilities to beat those who might be close to him in tennis abilities. While Tiafoe has a better chance of winning, it will be a great learning experience for Michelsen.
