ATP Dubai 2024: Alexander Bublik vs Jiri Lehecka, Preview, Head-to-Head, Prediction

A great show that was the Dubai Tennis Championships saw many great matches the last week. And now, just eight best players in the tournament remain. The first quarterfinal will be played between Alexander Bublik and Jiri Lehecka, a big one as both will aim to reach the semifinal of the tournament for the first time in their careers.

Bublik began 2024 at Adelaide International, where he managed to create a semifinal run before getting eliminated in two sets. His Australian Open stint wouldn’t pan out too well for him, as he lost to Sumit Nagal in the first round of the tournament. He followed the tournament with a complete turnaround as he would go on to win the Open Sud De France.

However, Bublik could not recreate the performances in the ATP Rotterdam and the Qatar Open as he lost in round 2 of both tournaments. Meanwhile, in the Dubai Open, The past week’s conditions have been quite favorable for Bublik. 23rd-ranked Kazakh currently boasts two wins over formidable forces in Tallon Griekspoor and Tomas Machac, going 3-0 in tiebreakers. He won his first two clashes with some effort and will now face Lehecka.

The 36th-ranked Czech Lehecka started the year with a bang as he managed to claim his first ATP 250 title in the Adelaide International. Later in the Australian Open, Lehecka would exit the tournament after round 2. A similar result would await him in the Open 13, where he lost in round 2, followed by a round 1 exit in ATP Rotterdam. He had results similar to Bublik in Dubai, as he won his first two rounds in three sets.

It is, however, worth mentioning that Lehecka had to really battle to secure a spot in the last eight. Although it was a thrill for the attendees, some of the matches went really deep. Outlasting Marton Fucsovics 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, the match lasted two hours and 22 minutes. Prior to this, beating Doha champion Karen Khachanov 6-7(6), 7-6(5), 6-4 took a lot of sweat over two hours and 53 minutes. For a No. 7 seed opponent who is well acquainted with playing tiebreakers and also winning them, it will be a test for Lehecka.

Bublik vs Lehecka: Head-to-Head

Despite being active on the court for many years now, Bublik and Lehecka have never played against each other. The match in Dubai will be their first battle against each other, and the two players will go all guns blazing in order to come out on top. Fans will also witness a fresh clash and hope to see new strategies employed in their first-ever match.

Prediction: Lehecka to take the win

Both players have shown great performances in the last two months. Both have won an ATP 250 title, but Lehecka’s recent performance shows better form than Bublik’s.
