Hurkacz began 2024 in the Australian Open. He managed great performances in the first slam of the year before being ousted by the eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal. The Polish player was ousted by Ugo Humbert in the semifinal of the Open 13 in Marseille and then lost in the second round of the ATP Rotterdam.

At the Dubai Tennis Championships, Hurkacz has been a tiebreaker machine so far. The eighth-ranked Pole’s streak of tiebreaker sets extended to nine when he beat Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 7-6(6). He then beat Christopher O’Connell 7-6(5) 6-4 to qualify for the last eight.

Humbert vs Hurkacz: Head-to-Head

Their next meeting would be in the 2023 Swiss Indoors tournament. Hurkacz would win the first set, and Humbert would come back to seal the second set. The two then played against each other in the 2024 Australian Open. Humbert would take the first set, shaking things up. However, he wouldn’t manage to close out the clash as Hurkacz won the following three sets and won the match 3-6 6-1 7-6(4) 6-3.

The two recently met in the semifinal of the 2024 Marseille Open, where Humbert would record his first win over Hurkacz, winning the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Both players have beaten each other once in 2024, but Humbert has the advantage of a better momentum. His run in this tournament has been better as compared to Hurkacz. The margins between the two are fine and Hurkacz holds the edge in tiebreakers all-time against Humbert, but the Frenchman with a trophy to his name recently and beating names like Mon fills and Murray could edge this contest.

A win here would put Humbert in line for a second ATP title this year. Who do you think will come out on top?
