The stage is all set for an emphatic showdown in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in Turin. Novak Djokovic, who will be looking to create a new record and defend his crown will be going up against Carlos Alcaraz, who made his debut in the Finals this year. With Carlos looking to have gained his form after a slow start, he will be looking to clinch title glory in his maiden appearance. On the other hand, his Serbian rival, who has been a hot favorite on the hard courts will be looking to defend the crown.

Coming into the ATP Finals Carlos Alcaraz had high hopes of challenging for title Glory. However, he did not have the start that he eventually wanted and was defeated unexpectedly by Alexander Zverev in his very first match. However, he bounced back quickly in his second group stage match and defeated the Russian Andrey Rublev with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2. Then came the final challenge, Daniil Medvedev. In a do-or-die situation, a win was the only way around for the Spanish player.

Ensuring his qualification into the semi-finals, he secured an easy win over his Russian rival and defeated him 6-4, 6-4. On the other hand, his opponent, Novak Djokovic did not have his best of tournaments either. Playing Holger Rune in his very first match, he had to put in some extra effort as the match went into a three-set thriller. Then came the tough task of Jannik Sinner who was already a crowd favourite. But it was the Italian player who stunned the Serbian legend and defeated him in a three-set classic.

In a do-or-die match against the Polish player Hubert Hurkacz, the Serbian won and ensured the qualification to the semi-final. With the final scoreline of 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 he made his way into the semis.

Alcaraz vs Djokovic: Head-to-head

When it comes to the head-to-head statistics between the two players, the scores are level at 2-2 each. While they only played once each other last year, the two have crossed paths thrice this year.

The first encounter came at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid Open in 2022. With clay being his strong point, Carlos Alcaraz stunned Novak Djokovic secured a win, and made his way into the finals. The final scoreline of the match was 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 in favor of the Spanish player. The two players then again crossed parts at the French Open earlier this year. However, this time things took a u-turn, and despite clay being the strong point, Novak Djokovic prevailed victorious. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

The third encounter came at Wimbledon which was the best match this year. The stage was all set for an emphatic showdown in the finals and both the players refused to give up till the very last moment. However, it was the Spanish player who secured his second grand Slam win of his career and defeated the Serbian with the score line of 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

The final encounter came at the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati Open and with the stage set for another final, the two produced one of the closest matches ever. However, with the final score line of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, it was the Serbian player who laid his hands on victory

Prediction: Novak Djokovic could secure yet another spot in the finals of the tournament

Novak Djokovic could secure yet another finals performance at the ATP Finals this year. It could be said due to certain reasons. The fact that Novak  Djokovic prefers hard courts gives him an advantage over his rival. On the other hand, with Carlos stating earlier that he had problems playing in these fast courts earlier, it could well mean that Novak Djokovic could use it to his advantage and ensure a win.
