With some spectacular initial round showdowns on the outdoor hard courts, the latest edition of the Los Cabos Open has managed to keep fans on the edges of their seats. Now that the quarterfinal fixtures have been concluded in style, the stage is set up for a high-profile semifinal clash between two big guns in the ATP Tour 250 series event taking place at the Cabo Sports Complex.

The ten-time ATP singles title champion, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will square off against the former world No. 2, Casper Ruud, in the semis. It is going to be a nail-biting encounter as both the top-seeded players will be vying for a place in the championship game in Mexico.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Casper Ruud: Los Cabos Open semifinal match preview

The Greek tennis sensation is coming to the tournament after a lackluster campaign at the Australian Open, where he faced a fourth-round defeat. Now entering the Los Cabos Open as the second seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas swept aside his unseeded Australian opponent Aleksandar Vukic in the round of 16. The former world No. 3 then breezed past the American Aleksandar Kovacevic in another straight-set game, 7-6, 6-3, to reach the semifinals.

Casper Ruud, on the other hand, is also coming to the tournament after his participation in the Australian Open, where he failed to reach the latter stages. The fourth-seeded Norwegian player now looks to make amends in Mexico, as he started his campaign by thumping Marcos Giron, 6-1, 6-0. In his quarterfinals, Ruud then overcame his Portuguese opponent, Nuno Borges, with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Tsitsipas vs. Ruud: Head-to-Head

The semifinal match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ruud at the Los Cabos Open will also mark their fourth meeting on the ATP Tour. In their previous encounter at the 2021 Rogers Cup, the Greek player defeated Ruud in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, and currently has a 2-1 lead in their H2H record.

In their second meeting at the 2021 Mutua Madrid Open, it was the Norwegian player who emerged victorious with a score of 7-6, 6-4. Back in 2016, Tsitsipas faced Ruud for the first time and clinched a victory in a three-set game of the Italy F10.

Prediction: Tsitsipas to prevail in the semis of the Los Cabos Open

The Greek player marked a triumphant campaign in the 2023 edition of the tournament, where he brushed aside some players of high caliber on the outdoor hard courts. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the defending champion and is well aware of the playing conditions in Los Cabos. Given his brilliant records in the event and his current seeding, the current number 10 player will most likely come out on top in this semifinal match.
