The Kazakhstani tennis star started the tournament on a high note as he swept aside former world No. 10 Denis Shapovalov in a three-set game, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. In the quarterfinal match, Bublik made a brilliant comeback after dropping the first set as he overcame his compatriot and the sixth-seeded Alexander Shevchenko, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Felix Auger Aliassime, on the other hand, also looks in stellar form, as he secured some brilliant initial round victories in Montpellier. Entering the tournament as the third-seeded player, the Canadian player breezed past Frenchman Arthur Cazaux in the round of 16. Auger Aliassime later thumped another unseeded participant, Harold Mayot, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, to reach the semifinals of the Open Sud de France.
