The Sunshine Doubles have concluded after a month of action-packed tennis. The ATP winners of the two tournaments are Carlos Alcaraz for the Indian Wells Masters and Jannik Sinner for the Miami Open. After the finals, the ranking ladders of the ATP have changed quite a bit, with the two players exchanging their positions. However, the top spot has not changed.

Alcaraz faced Daniil Medvedev, and Sinner played against Grigor Dimitrov. Although they lost, they also earned several ranking points, which helped them in the rankings table. Dimitrov displayed fantastic tennis in the second half of the Sunshine Doubles.

To reach the final, Dimitrov beat Hubert Hurkacz, Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev in back-to-back matches. Unfortunately, he could not prevail in the final against Sinner. Regardless, he managed to go home with handsome prize money and 600 ranking points, which helped him come up to rank 9, jumping up by three places and bringing the one-handed backhand back to the top 10.

Winning the Masters in the Vice City helped Sinner achieve a new career-high ranking of 2, surpassing Alcaraz, who now sits at rank 3. Despite being eliminated from the Indian Wells in round 3 and not competing in Miami, Novak Djokovic maintains his number 1 spot, with a comfortable lead of 1015 points against Sinner.

Additionally, Hubert Hurkacz also fell in the rankings table and came down to 9th. The rest of the table also shows major changes following the tournament. The biggest change in the top 50 comes from Fabian Marozsan, who played till the quarterfinal in Miami and jumped up by 19 places to now find himself at rank 38.

The biggest accomplishment came from Sinner, who amassed a new position in the rankings table, creating history for Italian tennis. However, the player is still humble about his achievements.

Sinner not only became the first player, after Roger Federer, to win both the Australian Open and the Miami Open in the same year, but he also packed his basket with national accolades. After recovering from his 2022 Miami Open final loss, he became the first male Italian player to reach the world number two position.

Looking back upon the milestone and creating history in tennis, Sinner humbly remarked, “Yeah, it’s a great honor. In my mind, it’s still only a number because obviously for me, it means a lot. Being number two, it’s an incredible achievement.”

Sinner’s consistent performances this year have helped him rise to rank 2. He has cleared many milestones, and now, one is left in his path, winning another tournament and taking the spot of the Novak Djokovic. He has shown he carries the potential, but can he use it to be at the top?
