The Sunshine Doubles have concluded after a month of action-packed tennis. The ATP winners of the two tournaments are Carlos Alcaraz for the Indian Wells Masters and Jannik Sinner for the Miami Open. After the finals, the ranking ladders of the ATP have changed quite a bit, with the two players exchanging their positions. However, the top spot has not changed.
Alcaraz faced Daniil Medvedev, and Sinner played against Grigor Dimitrov. Although they lost, they also earned several ranking points, which helped them in the rankings table. Dimitrov displayed fantastic tennis in the second half of the Sunshine Doubles.
To reach the final, Dimitrov beat Hubert Hurkacz, Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev in back-to-back matches. Unfortunately, he could not prevail in the final against Sinner. Regardless, he managed to go home with handsome prize money and 600 ranking points, which helped him come up to rank 9, jumping up by three places and bringing the one-handed backhand back to the top 10.

“still only a number”: Jannik Sinner’s humble approach to being in the top 2 in the ATP
Sinner not only became the first player, after Roger Federer, to win both the Australian Open and the Miami Open in the same year, but he also packed his basket with national accolades. After recovering from his 2022 Miami Open final loss, he became the first male Italian player to reach the world number two position.
Looking back upon the milestone and creating history in tennis, Sinner humbly remarked, “Yeah, it’s a great honor. In my mind, it’s still only a number because obviously for me, it means a lot. Being number two, it’s an incredible achievement.”
