Coming at the Shanghai Masters, he was expected to carry forward his great run of form. While he did manage to do so, he did one of the major turnarounds of the tournament and pulled Jannik Sinner out of the tournament. The Italian, who was coming fresh after securing the China Open title looked in good form to win the match. However, Shelton, despite losing the first set, won the match and made his way into the last 8 of the tournament.
