However, standing in his way will be the Argentinean powerhouse, Sebastian Baez.

After a disappointing run at the US Open, Holger Rune will be looking to get back on track at the ATP Vienna Open. The win in the first round in Vienna also marked his second win after he managed to make his way into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. Despite losing the first set, many eventually thought that he would lose another encounter here in Austria. However, he gathered all his courage and defeated the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic with a scoreline of 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

With a change in his coaching staff and the legendary Boris Becker taking over, he would be looking to turn things around at the tournament. Not long before, the German hailed him as a ‘rough diamond‘ and said that he possessed enough potential to become the best in the game. Also, with the ATP Finals on the line, he would be looking to carry forward the momentum and secure the title.

On the other hand, his opponent, Sebastian Baez, pulled off a miracle against the Australian Christopher O’Connell. After a series of ups and downs in recent tournaments, he managed to pull off a stunner against the Australian and defeated him with a scoreline of 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. With a place in the quarter-finals on the line, he would be willing to take down the Danish player and secure his seat.

Rune vs Baez: Head-to-head

Interestingly, the head-to-head battle among the two tennis players is tied at 1 a piece. Their first ever encounter came back in 2021 when the two locked horns with each other in Santiago, Chile. That match was comfortably won by Holger Rune after he defeated Baez with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. But that wasn’t the end.

Their second meeting came just a year later at the Argentina Open. Baez had the home support going into the match, which eventually proved fruitful for him. Baez won the match 7-6, 6-3, and equaled the head-to-head record between the two.

With the chance to take a lead in the head-to-head stats, both players would fight equally hard. However, it is only one who will take the victory and progress further.

Prediction: Holger Rune to secure the victory and ease into the quarter-finals

With a recent change in his coaching staff, Rune wants to make an instant impact and the Vienna Open offers him the right stage. After defeating Kecmanovic in the first round, he would look to carry the same momentum forward. He is the most favored candidate to win the Round of 16 match.
