In modern tennis, there’s hardly anyone who’ll disregard Djokovic for the success that he has earned. Coming off a fantastic season, he would be willing to take the title home and end the year at the top for the 8th time.

When it comes to the ATP World Tour Finals, there is hardly anyone who holds a better chance of winning the title than Novak Djokovic himself. The Serbian legend has proved repeatedly why he is the greatest player in the game. With three consecutive title triumphs at the Cincinnati Masters, the US Open, and the Paris Masters, his determination has skyrocketed.

Needless to say, he will be willing to make an impact at the ATP Finals as well. Also, coming in as a defending champion, all the hopes will be on the Serb to not only defend the crown but also end the year as the world’s number-one player in men’s tennis.

On the other hand, his opponent Holger Rune has also enjoyed a good season this year. Talking about some of the major highlights of this year, Rune managed to make it through to the quarter-finals at the French Open and Wimbledon while making his way into the finals of Monte Carlo and the Italian Open.

Not only this, he also managed to with his solo title when he won the BMW Open in Munich. After a rough season since his Wimbledon exit, he managed to get back on track and made it through the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoors in Basel and the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters. Looking to contest the title, he would be willing to do whatever it takes to win it.

Djokovic vs Rune: Head-to-head

Interestingly, the head-to-head stats between the two are even Steven. Out of the 4 encounters that the players had against each other, they both emerged victorious on 2 occasions. Their first meeting came at the US Open back in 2021. With the hard-court surface being right up his alley, the Serbian legend easily defeated the Danish player with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

On the other hand, their most recent meeting came at the Paris Masters just a week earlier before the ATP Finals. A determined Novak Djokovic took the perfect revenge for his loss against his Danish opponent back in the 2022 finals of the same tournament and defeated him with a scoreline of  7-5, 6-7, 6-4. However, it is worth remembering that it was only earlier this year in the outdoor clay tournament at the Rome Masters QF that Rune demolished Djokovic, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
