In the business end of this year’s Australian Open, familiar foes Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev face off for a place in the final to be played on Sunday in Melbourne. The duo, who share quite a history on-court, are all set to produce a mouth-watering clash for fans to enjoy.

Before the tournament, Tsitsipas was in recovery after the elbow surgery in Switzerland last November. He might not have started his Australian Open campaign as a clear favorite, but found a way to survive the initial rounds. However, during his quarter-final matchup against the rising Italian star Jannik Sinner, Tsitsipas showed the class he is capable of producing on his day.
The Greek star was in cruise mode and made use of every opportunity to defeat Sinner in straight sets. Right from the serve to his one-handed backhand, every aspect of his game was under his control as he delivered a majestic performance at Rod Laver Arena.

The World No.2 had a tough draw with the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Botic Van de Zandschulp, Felix Auger-Aliassime, etc., Every player that Medvedev encountered posed a different challenge and he survived them all. Against Felix in the quarters on Wednesday, Medvedev saved a match point and bounced back from a two-set deficit to clinch the victory.

Looking at the head-to-head between Medvedev and Tsitsipas, the odds are in favor of the Russian as he holds a comfortable 6-2 win record over Tsitsipas. Their last meeting came up in the quarter-finals of the 2021 French Open, where it was Tsitsipas who got the better of the no.2 seed.

On hard-courts, it is Medvedev who is on a driver’s seat as he registered five victories in comparison to Stefanos’ one. Considering numbers, it will have to be Daniil’s day tomorrow at the Rod Laver Arena, but looking at the way Tsitsipas believed in himself against a tough opponent like Taylor Fritz, it won’t be a smooth ride for the Russian.
