Carlos Alcaraz goes down fighting to Matteo Berrettini

The Spaniard went down to the Italian seventh seed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) in 4 hours and 10 minutes at the Rod Laver Arena. The 18-year-old gave his best on the court but could not sustain the pressure at crucial moments as he eventually exited the tournament.

However, the Italian was full of praise for Alcaraz. Berrettini said, “I think at his age I didn’t even have ATP points. He’s impressive. He can only improve playing matches like this. He showed everybody his potential.”

Rolex announces partnership deal with Carlos Alcaraz

Earlier, rewarding the Spaniard for his brilliant run, the Swiss watch designer and manufacturer has included the 18-year-old on its roster. Alcaraz joins the Rolex family that includes the likes of Roger Federer and Garbine Muguruza amongst others.

Further, reacting to this news, Alcaraz wrote, “Very happy and excited to be part of the Rolex family.” He shared the post via his official Instagram handle.

Further, playing in just his second Australian Open, the Spaniard has dominated his opponents in the first two rounds. Speaking at the press conference post his second-round victory, Alcaraz said that he was very happy with his performance.

The 18-year-old has had a solid start to the new season.
