Alexander Zverev and his positive outlook

Zverev and Nadal had a neck-to-neck competition in last year’s French Open. However, at the beginning of the second tie-breaker, fate had something else in store for the German. Zverev twisted and rolled over his ankle while attempting to get a better shot. This left him quite distressed and marked a major injury for his young career.

Zverev acknowledges how this injury made him change his perspective. He says: “After an injury like that, you really appreciate the hard days, the fun days. You enjoy being on the court.” He addresses the fact that many players only accept this fact once they are done with tennis for good. In his words: “Most players realize this once they stop playing tennis because they have not experienced this major injury.” However, he states that in his case, he experienced this much earlier. He said, “I realized it earlier, & I’m grateful for it, but I want to get back to where I was.” Zverev has his intentions all sorted out.

Alexander Zverev obviously is quite young to have injuries that risk his career in tennis. The 26-year-old says: “I didn’t want this injury to happen, obviously, but it made me grow, it made me realize what tennis really means.” It seems like his only goal as of now is to get back to where he was prior to this injury. He said: “If I get back to this level, if I win Grand Slams and become world number one, maybe I will look back and say that it was all worth it.” Although looking at his recent matches, it does seem like Zverev is on the right track.

The comeback journey of Alexander Zverev

Currently, Alexander Zverev is ranked as the World’s No.10. But, the champ aims to get back in his regular section of the top 5. With slight hiccups in his way, Zverev has managed to stay ahead of most players this season. It is quite commendable that he didn’t fall off further.

Injuries are the worst when they hit players in their prime. Although Zverev still has a couple of years left to stay upright, his concern about his performance is quite legitimate from a player’s perspective.
