Ben Shelton has not stepped off the headlines ever since his US Open stint titillated audiences all over the world. Some fame, some infamy, Shelton has provede himself and entertainer like no other. But with earning a name for himself, came also the pressure of scrutiny. Shelton is currently the target of detestation for many tennis fans. His public image in the eyes of the fans showed once again during his post-tournament Laver Cup interview.

The disdain for the aggressive youngster began during his Grand Slam bout against Novak Djokovic. In the match, he passed a comment at the Serbinator, which drew quite a lot of hate on social media. Now, he is under fire once again.

Team World demolished Team Europe 13-2 in the 2023 Laver Cup. When the winning team players sat down for the conference after the match, the focus fell on Ben Shelton. As he talked about being able to play with McEnroe’s guidance, fans in the comment section were only focused on roasting him.

Many disliked him for wearing glasses, while some focused on his attitude. One user went straight to the point and asked why Shelton was wearing glasses indoors.

Noticing the way he was talking, one tennis follower believed that Shelton’s behavior was improving, but the glasses annoyed them.

One fan felt that the American player was slurring when talking and felt that he was drunk. They also said that he was probably wearing glasses because he was drunk. They also compared him to Carlos Alcaraz and said that the two are incomparable in skill and mannerisms.

Drifting a bit from the previous reactions, one user called him a “spoiled brat” and added a clown emoji to boot.

The outrage for Shelton’s act can be seen everywhere on social media. While fans are angry at him now, the dislike for the American player began all the way back in the US Open semifinal.

Fans lambast Shelton for Novak Djokovic comment

During his match with the eventual winner of the US Open, Shelton hit a shot which Novak Djokovic couldn’t return. Arrogantly, he commented to his box that Djokovic didn’t like that shot. His comment enraged fans worldwide, and they did not hold back from calling him out. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, tennis fans lambasted the young American player left and right.

After he lost against Djokovic, the dislike for him became even more immense as fans shared their outrage at the video. The young American player again drew the tennis community’s ire once again at the Laver Cup. Shelton is on track to becoming another of the sport’s controversial figures unless he can prove that he’s worth his salt.
