The tennis tournaments, as they have always functioned, move ahead by providing players an opportunity to compete fairly against each other. However, sometimes, players find the rules of the tournament disturbing as they witness the negative side of it. Fils slams Novak Djokovic-backed champion with rule advantage allegation
The amazing clash between young tennis talents at the Next Gen Finals recently concluded with Hamad Medjedovic taking a long run to secure a historic victory over Arthur Fils. However, what else grabbed the attention of the fans besides it being a five-set match was the runner-up’s comment about the tournament rules.
Arthur Fils criticized the rule that allows players to take bathroom breaks, stating, “No, that’s a very bad rule.” Continuing to prove his point of shortening the overall time of the match, he said, “If you want it to go faster, you shouldn’t put ten-minute breaks between sets. But these are the rules, we have to live with them.” During the match, Medjedovic took two bathroom breaks which Fils saw as a move that didn’t sit well. “I don’t know if he wanted to break my rhythm or get back into the match. Maybe it’s not against me and I have no problem with it, but the rule is very bad,” he questioned.
Huge congratulations to @MedjedovicHamad winning the ATP Next Gen final in a pulsating match v Arthur Fils.
Hamad who has been supported by Djokovic, certainly showed Djokovic style of strength, courage and a lot of determination today.

Fils’ concern over the newly applied no-warm-up rule
Before his slam against the break timings, Arthus Fils also used his chance to share his thoughts on the new rule that skips the warm-up before matches. He mentioned that the impact of this rule can be uncertain as the young tennis star highlighted the potential challenges for players who might face a good or very bad start without any warm-up.
“No warm-ups. It’s going to be good or very bad. I don’t know if it’s possible to come on the court without a warm-up. You don’t play, you don’t hit one ball. So first serve, maybe you’re going to frame the ball or double fault. Some guys are going to be very good, and probably some others are going to be broken every time in the first game,” he said, sharing his candid thoughts about the rule before the tournament started.
