Barcelona Open 2024: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Dušan Lajović; Preview, Head-to-Head, Prediction

The Barcelona Open big stage is all set up for an exciting semi final. This thrilling encounter will take place between two ATP players of high caliber following the conclusion of the initial round matches. On the Catalonian clay, the fifth-seeded Greek player, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will square off against his Serbian opponent, Dušan Lajović.

The ATP 500 tournament features some of the big guns vying for glory at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. As the likes of Tsitsipas and Lajović are now two matches away from winning this esteemed clay championship, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this encounter in Torneo Conde de Godó.

The Greek tennis star arrived on the Catalonian clay after his triumphant run at the Monte Carlo Masters. In his initial round match, the fifth seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, swept aside the likes of Sebastian Ofner and Roberto Carballés Baena in straight sets. The former world No. 3 player then pulled off a brilliant comeback in his quarterfinal match against Facundo Diaz Acosta, as he won with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

During his three-set thriller, Tsitsipas hit three aces and seven double faults against the Argentine while he had a first-serve win percentage of 73%, which decreased to 57% on the second serve.

Lajović, on the other hand, is coming to the Barcelona Open after his qualifying round defeat in Monte Carlo. Entering the ATP 500 tournament as an unseeded participant, the  Serbian player defeated some of the top guns like Diego Schwartzman, Ugo Humbert, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the initial rounds.

In the quarterfinals, Lajović pulled off an upset against another top seed, Arthur Fils, as he prevailed in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. During his brilliant victory, the Serb hit one ace in the match while having a brilliant 57% of points on his first serve, and 67% on his second serve.

Tsitsipas vs Lajović: Head-to-Head

The semifinal match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dušan Lajović at this season’s Barcelona Open will also mark their fourth meeting on the men’s tour. In their previous meeting at the 2020 Hamburg European Open, the Greek player defeated his Serbian colleague in straight sets and currently has a 3-1 lead in their H2H record.

Prediction: Tsitsipas to prevail in this semifinal in Barcelona

Stefanos Tsitsipas is on a roll during the clay court season, winning the title at the Monte Carlo Masters after defeating some of the top-ranked participants. While having a solid record of 192/61 on the clay courts, Tsitsipas has also won five ATP singles titles on the surface. Tsitsipas’ vast experience on clay will make him the favorite to win this match against the Serb, who previously failed to secure a place in the main draw of the Monte Carlo Masters.
