American tennis legend John McEnroe has been a part of some of the greatest rivalries of his time. The tennis legend fans all over the world enjoyed seeing him play against Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl. However, the Bjorn Borg and McEnroe on-court battle was what they enjoyed the most. The conflicts over the tennis courts were so intense and engaging that there is a movie made on them in 2017, Borg vs. McEnroe.

Throughout their career, they have faced each other and played several intense matches, mostly in final legs of major tournaments. Notably, they have only played 14 times against each other and had seven wins each. The two managed to create one of the biggest and most well-known rivalries in men’s tennis despite their limited face-offs.
John McEnroe makes fun of ‘Borg vs. McEnroe’ actors
In a recent conversation with GQ sports, the former world number one analyzed various tennis scenes from famous movies. In that, he reviewed a tennis court scene from the movie ‘Borg vs. McEnroe’ and compared it to what happened in real life.
He said, “Borg was one of the greatest athletes ever and super fit and stuff, but we weren’t that radically different the way we looked, and you know, this other guy, whoever played Borg was like this, you know, viking God and unbelievable, doing, you know, pull-ups with one finger.” He talked about the actors who played Borg and him on-screen and how it was different from the reality.
Further, he also compared the physique of the American actor who played him on the screen and mocked the makers in a typical ‘Superbrat’ style. He said, “And you know, Shia LaBeouf’s legs are a little skinny. I was like, “why does he, can’t they, you know, beef up his legs or something? Cause my legs weren’t that skinny. So that was sort of disappointing.”

While McEnroe is now a successful sports analyst and commentator, Borg, on the other hand, has been away from the sporting world and has not attended any tennis tournament in the past few years. However, Borg and McEnroe will be seen in the Laver Cup this month. Their friendship and possibly, past feuds might be revisited when their teams, Team World and Team Europe, take on each other.
