To say the last match between Stan Wawrinka and Holger Rune was interesting would be an understatement. And to add to the power strokes from both the Danish and the Swedish sides, we have their intense rivalry which has been making headlines both before and after the match. For tennis fans, this means added drama. As witnessed before, fans love these backstories and rivalries, sometimes even more than the actual on-court performance. In one such instance, a pre-match incident for Rune turned out to be an embarrassing moment for him after his loss to the veteran tennis player.

As is the norm for ATP Tour’s official Twitter handle, they released a poll for their followers to choose their sides before the match on Monday. However, fans from both sides went brutal with their stance and one such fan trolled Wawrinka for his age. To that very comment, Holger Rune gave a ‘like’. Unfortunately, the comment did not “age” well, as Rune was eliminated by the Swiss star.

ATP Tour on Twitter sent out a post some hours ago, pushing fans to pick sides in the match. The post read, “They meet again. Who will you be backing, Wawrinka or Rune?” ATP went all the way and put a popcorn emoji beside the tweet, indicating the juicy rivalry between the two that is enjoyed by their fans. To this, 51% people sided with Wawrinka and 49% went with Holger Rune.

A Rune fan commented on the tweet, “People really think Stan has a chance here, what year do you think it is?”

To that, Holger Rune reacted with a like. After the straight loss that he suffered, it would suffice to say that maybe he overestimated the odds. Also, looking at the poll results, there was indeed very little margin from the point of view of the fans. As the match ended in three sets of 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5  in Wawrinka’s favor, he now progresses to the round of 16 in the Indian Wells while Rune will have to strategise a better battle for the next time he comes face to face with his rival.
