The 7-time Grand Slam winner, McEnroe, also praised Kyrgios‘ impressive run after reaching the Wimbledon final earlier this year. Moreover, he feels that winning the doubles title at the Australian Open gave him more confidence for the season ahead.

“When I saw him three months ago after the clay season, I was like: ‘Wait a second. What has this guy been doing? Because this is night and day. This is beautiful’. That match is going to be incredible – him and Medvedev. The winner of that to me is in the finals, for sure. I’d be surprised if they lose [from there], either one of them,” McEnroe further said.

In the round of 16 match against Daniil Medvedev, Kyrgios played some immaculate tennis as he won the match 7-6(11) 3-6 6-3 6-2 in 2 hours and 53 minutes. Moreover, this is his second straight quarter-final appearance after Wimbledon.

In the quarter-final match, he will face another Russian Karen Khachanov. As per McEnroe, the winner of the match between Medvedev and Kyrgios will reach the final. As Kyrgios won that match, he has a genuine chance of making it to the final, where he could potentially face Rafael Nadal.

Apart from singles, he also reached the round of 16 in doubles as well pairing with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. Notably, they shocked everyone earlier at the Australian Open by winning the Grand Slam title. So, there’s a good chance we might see them in the finals of the doubles as well. Earlier, he won both the singles and doubles titles at the Citi Open. Certainly, it’s not impossible for Kyrgios to repeat something like that.
