Ben Shelton Enjoys ‘Brother of Mexico’ Tag as He Becomes Fan Favorite at Acapulco Open

At the ongoing Acapulco Open, tennis player Ben Shelton came into the tournament as one of the major contenders and also the fan favorite. The American star, who has impressed everyone with his gameplay has become an instant hit amongst the fans. The same thing was witnessed at the Acapulco Open as well.
Shelton got an unexpected and heartwarming surprise from the Mexican crowd. In a recent interview, Shelton was asked about what were the “Ben, Hermano, Ya Eres Mexicano” chants that filled the stadium during his match, he suggested that these meant that he was the brother of Mexico.
“Ben, the brother of Mexico. You are now a Mexican. I think that’s a very big compliment from the Mexican crowd. Surprising but happy with that. I am kind of relating some of the people here and getting the crowd involved during my match,” said Shelton during the interview while reflecting on the affection that he got from the fans.

Thus, delighted by the newfound title, Shelton expressed his happiness while reflecting on the active involvement of the fans during his matches. As he continues to make wonders here, the love of the fans is what would keep him going and he would be willing to make his way to the title glory.
Interestingly, Shelton, who has managed to make his way into the quarter-finals of the tournament managed to establish a huge record to his name as he made his father proud.

Ben Shelton, who played against Matteo Arnaldi in the round of 16 managed to defeat him in a 3-set-thriller. With the victory, he managed to equal his father’s record after 30 long years. Back in 1994, it was Bryan Shelton, Ben’s father who managed to secure his way into the quarter-finals.

Now, Ben managed to equal that feat and made his way into the last 8. While locking horns against Casper Ruud in the quarters, he would be willing to surpass his father’s record and make him proud.
