It’s not uncommon for the players to engage in banter on social media, sharing laughs and light-hearted jabs. Frances Tiafoe is one of the players whose playful nature often shines through, especially in his interactions with his fellow players online. Tiafoe’s driving skills, however, are a different story. Known for his aggressive play on the court, he seems to lack the same finesse behind the wheel.
The players often joke about Tiafoe’s driving abilities. For instance, during a road trip, he once took a wrong turn that led to an unexpected detour. Instead of heading to his destination, he ended up at a fast-food drive-thru miles away! This incident has become a running joke among his friends, who tease him about his questionable navigation skills.
Recently, Tiafoe shared his adventures in Cabo with his girlfriend on Instagram. One of the photos included the two of them sitting on an ATV with helmets. The kicker was that Broomfield sat behind Tiafoe which brought in a hilarious comment from Ben Shelton. “She’s brave getting on a 4-wheeler with u driving 😭,” Shelton wrote, emphasizing the lighthearted concern Tiafoe’s friends have regarding his driving.

Shelton wouldn’t be the first to poke fun at Frances Tiafoe’s driving skills! Even Tiafoe’s girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, joined in on the jokes. Earlier in March, she posted a hilarious clip on her Instagram story showing herself in the passenger seat while Tiafoe was behind the wheel. The comedic twist? The song ‘Hell To Da Naw Naw Naw’ by Bishop Bullwinkle played in the background. She captioned the clip with, “POV ur driving with Foe [Frances Tiafoe].” It’s clear that Ayan has a sense of humor about Tiafoe’s less-than-stellar driving!

Inside jokes among players are common in tennis, but Tiafoe seems to never hear the end of this one! Despite being known for his powerful forehand and aggressive style on the court, fellow players often rally around his questionable driving skills. Not too long ago, even Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul shared their concerns over Tiafoe’s reputation as a driver.
Fritz and Paul get real about Tiafoe’s driving skills
Earlier in June, the cinch Championships’ social media team released a series of hilariously candid interviews with players on the Tour, asking them about navigation skills and ideal road trip partners. When Tommy Paul was asked, “Which tennis player has the worst navigation skills?” he didn’t hesitate to name “Frances Tiafoe.” He added, “That’s going to be a popular answer,” emphasizing that “anyone who knows, knows.” When asked the same question, Taylor Fritz echoed this sentiment, replying, “I don’t know. But I’ll give you a better one. The worst driver I know is Frances [Tiafoe].”

However, Paul didn’t stop there. He humorously mentioned a little anecdote, “When I’m practicing with Frances, I park as far away from the closest spot because I don’t want to park next to him. You never know what’s going to happen.” Despite the jokes about Tiafoe’s driving, Paul also noted that he would love to have Tiafoe as a sat-nav voice because his voice is “very unique.”
It’s rough out here for Tiafoe. With all this playful ribbing from his peers, one can only hope he’ll show off both his tennis prowess and driving skills more in the 2025 season. Do you think these comments will encourage Tiafoe to work on his driving? Let us know what you think in the comments!
