Benoit Paire Gets a Win Over Ricardas Berankis, Qualifies For Pre-Quarterfinals at German Open 2021

French professional tennis player Benoit Paire is going through a pretty rough season in 2021. His wins are almost numbered on the tour as of now and he has even faced severe action from the French Tennis Federation due to his harsh behavior on the court. However, Paire gave his critics a firm response as he finally managed to win a match on tour.
Benoit Paire is currently playing at the German Open 2021. Facing Ricardas Berankis in the first round, the Frenchman looked comfortable with his shots and played some amazing volleys. Even though it was a very neck-to-neck competition, Paire enjoyed a walkover as his opponent injured himself. The scoreline of the match was 6-6 when the incident took place. Whatever be the case, Paire finally has got a win.

Set-1: Ricardas Berankis gives some tough competition to Benoit Paire but injures himself
Paire got an early lead as he won the first game quite easily. However, Berankis fought back hard and equalized the scoreline at 1-1 at the end of the second game. He went on and broke in the next game, and then won the subsequent game as well to establish a 3-1 lead over the World No.51 Paire.

Paire didn’t give it all up this time and struck back. After winning his service game, he broke, and thus, leveled the scoreline at 3-3. However, Berankis broke back and won the following game as well to widen the margin at 5-3. He was just one game away to win the first set but Paire did something sensational after that.

The Frenchman won the next game and then broke again to once again equalize the scoreline at 5-5. He was yet again in trouble when Berankis broke again and was leading at 6-5 but he never lost hope. Even though Berankis saved two break-points in the 12th game, he failed to save the third one- allowing Paire to break for the third time. As a result, he leveled the scoreline at 6-6.

However, just before the beginning of the tie-breaker, Bernakis decided not to continue the match as he injured his ankle and was not able to walk properly. This gave Paire the walkover and thus, he’ll now advance to the pre-quarterfinals of the German Open 2021.
