Novak Djokovic has proved that he’s built different, yet again. The 33-year-old player, while suffering an injury, defeated Canadian challenger Milos Raonic in the fourth round at the Australian Open 2021. The win also sent him through to the quarterfinals. What’s more, the win earned him a special Grand Slam record! 

Novak Djokovic has now joined the exclusive 300-wins club at Grand Slams. As far as the men’s game is concerned, Roger Federer was the sole member of the exclusive troupe until Djokovic joined him by defeating Raonic in four sets on Sunday.

While Djokovic’s 300th Grand Slam victory came against Raonic at the Australian Open 2021, his first-ever win at a Majors tournament came against Robby Ginepri at the 2005 French Open. 

These milestones are quite special, and Djokovic would carry this momentum to excel in his upcoming matches at the ‘Happy Slam.’

With his win, Djokovic has set up a mammoth clash with Zverev in the last eight of the Australian Open 2021. These two are quite familiar with each other’s games as they’ve faced off seven times in the past. 

“Well, Sascha and I, we get along really well on and off the court. He’s a great guy and we joked around yesterday that we have kind of similar injuries,” Djokovic expressed during his on-court interview. 

Novak Djokovic also praised Zverev for honing his skills to become a complete player. The German is incredibly tall, and he’s now developed a stronger game to compliment his beastly serves!

“He’s one of the top men’s players in the last five years. He has won the World Tour finals, he has been a Top-5, Top 10 established player for quite a few years right now, even though he’s still young,” Djokovic said of Zverev. 

“I’m expecting nothing less than than a big battle than it was in the ATP cup, so let the better player win absolutely,” the 33-year-old added.
