In a heartfelt letter to his fans and friends, Ivo Karlovic, via his social media account (X) officially declared his retirement from professional tennis, marking the end of a gratifying and unorthodox career.

The Croatian star, who was known for his towering presence on the court and powerful serves, reflected on his humble beginnings in a vastly different Croatia of the 80s and 90s. He expressed his gratitude to coaches, supporters, and his loving family while acknowledging the crucial role that they played in his remarkable journey.

Interestingly, he was only one of the few players to ever have taken a positive head-to-head record against Novak Djokovic. Out of the 3 encounters that they have faced, Karlovoic managed to bag a win on 2 occasions while the Serbian prevailed victorious in only the first encounter. The final scoreline was 2-1 in favor of Karlovic.

“I’m sorry to disappoint, but with this letter, I want to make it official and finally announce my retirement,” said Karlovic. “I’d like to thank all the coaches and people who were involved in and contributed to my development as a tennis player. Without you this fortunate journey would not have been possible.”

While bidding farewell to the competitive arena, Karlovic assured fans that he would stay connected with tennis while sharing his knowledge and experiences with the next generation of players. As the curtains close on his playing career, Dr. Ivo expresses immense love and gratitude to all who were part of his extraordinary journey. Cheers to a tennis legend!
