Daniil Ostapenkov’s only pro-level match
The teenager from Belarus so far has played only one pro-level match in his entire career. In 2020, Ostapenkov faced the German Dominik Koepfer in the Davis Cup which he lost in straight sets. Nobody would’ve expected Daniil to pull off the upset that he did, especially given his inexperience at the top level.
Daniil’s victory was incredible for the way the 18-year-old played under pressure. He won 75% (6/8) of his break points and restricted Diego to only 36% (4/11). Given his young age and inexperience, he showed incredible resolve in his astonishing victory. After the successes of Emma Raducanu, Leylah Fernandez, and Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open, it certainly is a good time to be a teenager playing tennis right now.
