Former world number four, James Blake, might have found himself in troublesome waters. As the director of the Miami Open, he recently came across a tennis rule about betting sponsorship in the tournament. Not only did he violate a tennis rule, he also got a huge fine, for the same, although there are a lot of other things that the International Tennis Integrity Agency shared regarding this mishap.

While the former American tennis player has created quite a name for himself, just a few weeks before that tournament, he got himself tangled in a violation, leading to a warning and a fine. Let’s take a look in detail at what went wrong with the former world number 4.

James Blake fined for betting sponsorship 

Recently, the Miami Open Director was wired in an investigation that was made by the ITIA. According to ITIA’s official website, the former top-10 player is fined around $56,250 for going wrong about the betting sponsorship.

Along with that, the agencies highlighted that the violation was unintentional, and even the former American tennis player fully cooperated with the investigation and came out without any charges. Subsequently, if Blake breaks the same rule again during his 18-month probationary period, the fine amount will increase, and he will have to pay an additional fine of $131,250.

In addition, ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse also shared his take on Blake’s case. He stated, “This case is more a matter of perception, rather than corruption. The rules apply to players, coaches, officials, and accredited tournament staff — who all have the ability to influence results or have access to inside information.”

The former 4th-ranked tennis player has been the tournament director since 2018, and he retired from the professional circuit back in 2013 after reaching a career-best ranking of number 4. When US tennis coaches were fined for promoting gambling

Back in 2022, the American Davis Cup team coaches, Mardy Fish and Bob Bryan were fined $10,000 for promoting a gambling operation over their social media accounts. Even Fish shared his take on the same, in an interview from back in the day.

He wrote in a letter that he sent to the Associated Press, “Bob and I did a DraftKings promo during the U.S. Open that we were unaware we weren’t allowed to do. As soon as we found out, I deleted the posts and cooperated with the ITIA.” Their ban was provisionally set aside as they fully cooperated, and it was only applicable if there was another similar beach during their 4-month probationary period.
