

Over the years, American tennis has seen many players that have gone on to achieve legendary status. From Billie Jean King to the likes of Andy Roddick and Serena Williams, these players have carried their country’s hopes on their shoulders. Amongst them is the eight-time Grand Slam champion, Jimmy Connors. The 71-year-old tennis icon played at the top level consistently for over 20 years. However, injuries have had a fair say in his career. Recently, he shared a saddening update regarding his injury.

Despite his retirement, Jimmy Connors has been playing tennis and other sports as his day-to-day activity. On one such day, he suffered a bad fate.

Jimmy Connors talks about his knee injury
During the recent episode of the ‘Advantage Connors’ podcast, the 71-year-old opened up about how he sustained a terrifying knee injury out of the blue. Further, Connors also fears that he might have to get his knee replaced if it gets worse.

Explaining his condition, Connors said, “Four or five days ago, when I played my normal tennis, then went played nine holes, felt great, came home, had dinner, woke up the next morning, couldn’t walk. So I’m going, ‘What the hell happened here?'”

Further, Connors went on to add, “It was getting worse. So I called my friend who took care of me thirty-two years ago with the wrist, friend of the past… I went through everything today, I had the MRI on my knee, and blowing out your knee is not a fun thing. And I just hope that it is not to the point where I have to get my knee replaced.” Even though the feeling is extremely bad, it is not the first time for Connors.

Injuries haven’t been alien to Connors. He has suffered many bad injuries during his career. Additionally, his injury absence once caused a massive furor.

When Jimmy Connors went missing
During the 1977 Wimbledon Championships, Connors was to be bestowed upon a massive honor. The 71-year-old tennis legend was supposed to receive a medal from the Duke of Kent during the Parade of Champions.

However, Connors missed the all-important ceremony because of his thumb injury and he was also trying out a new splint. This incident caused quite a controversy as he was called out by the media for missing the event.
Nonetheless, Jimmy Connors later cleared the air regarding his absence. Following that incident, Connors went on to add another 4 Grand Slam titles to his kitty. As a result, he etched his name among the greatest players American tennis has ever seen.
