Novak Djokovic‘s ATP finals in Turin are receiving much criticism. Recently, this world number-one completed his 400th week while beating Holger Rune before the semi-finals. However, during the finals, Djokovic shared quite a surprising attitude with the audience. As a result, more than his ATP final performance, the media is hyped by his current attitude.

In the ATP Finals 2023, Djokovic faced Italy’s own Jannik Sinner. This truly escalated the fans’ excitement to the extent that they cheered for Sinner just to break the Serbinator’s confidence on the court. For example, the Italian crowd didn’t hesitate to encourage Sinner with applause even when he made double faults! Yes, the crowd was truly acting partially to support their player. This is when  Djokovic broke his usual cool self and started sarcastically clapping towards the spectators.

However, this didn’t stop the audience to sit back and accept it. The Italian audience replied back to Djokovic with their demeaning “boos”. In fact, this ATP finals had a similar moment with another player Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was treated in the same way just fifteen minutes after declaring retirement.

Consequently, this year’s ATP finals just became extra controversial among the crowd. While Sinner gave a thought fight to Djokovic, the audience’s behavior was truly unjustified. Though Djokovic showcased superior strength by maintaining 5-5 in serving, Sinner gave a tough fight. However, the problem arose when Sinner received a break point for Djokovic’s mistake of a double fault.

This is when the audience cheered for Jannik Sinner and received sarcastic claps from Djokovic in return. After this, Sinner again received a break and couldn’t match up, although he started with 7-5.

Such instances prove the powerful influence of the game’s spectators. The crowd even managed to disturb the focus of Novak Djokovic, who is known for his strong comebacks. Jannik Sinner went on to win the match, and the audience had the last laugh. However, Djokovic will look to return with a redefined approach and ultimately dominate in this tournament.
