Jannik Sinner has grown exponentially in the last few years. He flirted with the top 3 by the end of 2023 and finally broke through after winning the Australian Open and then the ATP Rotterdam. He has converted millions of fans and assured the tennis world that there is someone to take the flame from the big four. Such potential has impressed many, especially Novak Djokovic’s former coach, who heaped praises on Sinner.

Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are the big three of tennis. However, Federer has retired, Nadal is in the final year of his career and Djokovic is showing signs of struggles to pull through to the finals. In their stead, Sinner has been delivering the ultimate entertainment to fans.

Boris Becker is one of many he has impressed. In an interview with the Financial Times, he says, “Maybe it’s something to do with the red hair and the very white skin but, you know… we feel for each other.” As per Becker, “I think the sky’s the limit,” for the Italian youngster.

While he believes that the Fox will be a future great, he will have good competition in Carlos Alcaraz. “He and Carlos Alcaraz look like they’re better than the rest for various reasons.” However, he isn’t sure who will be the first one to clear the milestone of five slams. “Who’s going to win five majors? Who knows – so many things can happen on the way to heaven. But I don’t see any reason for Jannik to stop winning.”

Becker has praised both Alcaraz and Sinner many times over the last few months. However, the former number 1 also believes that it is unfair to put too much pressure on the two at the moment.

Boris Becker agrees with Roger Federer’s statement on putting pressure on Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz

The Tennis Letter referenced Federer from his March GQ interview, in which he urged avoiding putting pressure on Alcaraz and Sinner by establishing unrealistic expectations and provided fans and pundits with a reality check. “I don’t like to put the pressure on these players because honestly aiming for 20 [major victories] was not something I did, Rafa did, or Novak did. Of course, you have the players that you think are going to win multiple Slams.”

Chasing the dream of 20 majors when one has just begun their tennis dominance is something that can cause serious damage to the mentality of the player. A few losses here and there can shake them up and make them lose their grip on the game. Resonating with Federer’s mindset, Becker said, “Word,” to show his agreement with the Swiss Maestro.
